A—30 Fit

Who I help

Most people who reach out are not in trouble. They are doing well and have started to suspect that "doing well" and "well organised" are not the same thing. See if one of these sounds like you.

Profile 01

Serious savers

You are the person your friends ask about money. You save consistently, you avoid unnecessary debt, and you have accumulated meaningful assets. What you cannot say with confidence is whether those assets are sitting in the right places, or whether you are carrying more cash than the job requires.

Usually sounds like: "I know I'm saving enough. I'm just not sure I'm saving in the right way."

Profile 02

Young professionals & couples

Two incomes, rising earnings, and decisions that now affect someone else. A first home, a wedding, possibly children, possibly a move. The accounts opened in your twenties were fine for your twenties; the next decade asks harder questions about liquidity, protection and what you are each optimising for.

Usually sounds like: "We're combining finances and we want to start this properly rather than fix it later."

Profile 03

Families

A mortgage, education to think about, and people who depend on your income. Your horizon is long, but the short-term obligations are real and non-negotiable. The work here is making sure the long-term plan can survive the short-term surprises — and that the protection matches the promises you have made.

Usually sounds like: "If something happened to me, I honestly don't know what my family would do next."

Profile 04

Business owners

Whether you run a company or you are an incorporated professional, your personal and corporate finances are two halves of one situation, and they are often advised separately. Compensation, retained earnings, what stays in the company, what comes out and when, and how any of it connects to a retirement that does not depend entirely on a future sale.

Usually sounds like: "My accountant handles the corporation, but nobody is looking at me."

Tax and legal advice remain with your accountant and lawyer. My role is to make sure the financial structure and the corporate picture are being looked at together.

Profile 05

People approaching retirement

Within roughly ten years of stopping work, the question changes shape. It is no longer "how much can I accumulate" but "how does this become an income I can rely on." Which accounts to draw from and in what order, how pensions and government benefits fit, and how much risk still belongs in the portfolio.

Usually sounds like: "We think we have enough. We'd like to know rather than think."

Profile 06

DIY investors at the complexity ceiling

You have managed your own investments capably, often for years, and the returns are not the problem. The problem is that the situation has grown — several accounts, a spouse's plan, a corporation, an inheritance, a property — and the coordination now takes more time and judgment than the investing ever did.

Usually sounds like: "I can pick the funds. I can't tell whether the whole structure still makes sense."

A—31 Honesty

When this is not the right fit

It is worth saying plainly. This approach is probably not for you if you are looking for someone to pick winning stocks, if you want to trade actively, or if you are mainly interested in short-term performance against an index.

It is also not the right moment if you are in the middle of an urgent debt crisis — a credit counsellor or insolvency professional will help you faster than a financial plan will.

Geography

Where I can work with you

I work primarily with clients in Ontario, in person and by video, and I advise in both English and French.

If you live outside Ontario, get in touch anyway. What I can do depends on the licensing and professional requirements that apply where you live, and you will get a straight answer either way.

The Introduction Call costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Its only job is to work out whether there is something worth doing.
